Institute of Computer Graphic and Image Processing at Zhejiang University bases itself on Applied Mathematics National Key Discipline in Mathematics Department of the University's School of Science. As a first-batch National Key Discipline, the institute has the concentration of the main strength of applied mathematics sector, carrying out research on theory and application of Graphic and Image Processing by means of modern mathematics. Its main research areas cover scientific computing, intelligent learning, digital image processing, CAD geometrical design, Computer Graphics, fractal geometry and wavelet analysis, etc.
Known for its sound academic atmosphere and talents cultivation practice, the institute now has a teaching staff of 13, including 4 professors, and 6 associate professors. One has obtained fund from National Excellent Youth Foundation, 1 being honored as Ministry of Education's Yangtze River Scholar. The institute undertakes projects in National Natural Science Foundation, "973" Basic Research sub-projects, and key project building in 10th FYP and "211 Project". With a sizable laboratory, its research reflects the new characteristics of the applied mathematics discipline at Zhejiang University. Its staff has been awarded National Natural Science prizes twice, and provincial and ministerial science progress prizes many times.
