摘要:In this presentation, we will talk about the application of Characteristic Mapping (CM) methods for the advection-diffusion equation. Firstly, we will review some existing literature on the CM methods for the linear advection problem. We will underline that one main advantage of the CM methods is their capability to resolve fine scale details while performing coarse grid computations: they run in linear-time while providing efficient multiscale representations of the solution. Secondly, we will adapt the existing framework to the advection-diffusion equation. We will present a novel framework which incorporates the diffusion term while preserving the multiscale property of CM methods. We will study the mathematical theory behind this framework and its numerical properties and implementation. Lastly we will show some results from our numerical experiments and talk about the outlook of this method for solving the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations.
