The department of Mathematics of Zhejiang University has a long and glorious history, especially after 1929, when the renowned mathematicians Chen Jiangong, followed by Su Buqing, came to work in the department. They formed the well-known "Chen-Su school". Offspring of this school include Academicians Gu Chaohao, Xia Daoxing, Wang Yuan Hesheng, Sho Zhongci and Shen Changxiang, as well as many outstanding mathematicians like Xiong Quanzhi and Yang Zhongdao.
