Abstract: 
We will give an introduction to Hall's method for introducing a coordinate system to an arbitrary projective plane. Pickert's results (from the 1950s) connecting algebraic properties of the coordinate system to certain autmorphism groups of the projective plane lead to the concept of an optimal coordinatisation. We will touch on this concept and how it relates to several problems in the area.
