报告摘要 Abstract

If a graph G has property A implying G also has the property B, then B is a necessary condition for G to have A. There exists some property for a graph to have it such that it is the same even we impose a necessary condition on it, while there exists some property for a graph to have it such that it is different from it if one imposes a necessary condition on it. For example, to be 2-connected is necessary condition for a graph to be hamiltonian cycle. Ore condition say that if minimum degree sum of two vertices of a graph G is at least its order, then G is Hamiltonian. If we impose a necessary condition that it has a hamiltonian path, then the condition could not be changed; while it would be changed to be that one of degree of a pair of vertices of distance two is at most half of the order of G, which be much improved than those without it. In this talk, we focus on hamiltonian property and forbidden subgraphs condition: Hamiltonian cycle or path, and so on.

报告摘要 Abstract

A surface in the 3-dimensional Euclidean space can be viewed as the image of a map from a planar domain to the 3-dimensional Euclidean space, at least locally. The standard metric in Euclidean space induces a metric on the surface, which allows us to compute the lengths of curves on the surface and to compute the distance of any two points on the surface. The induced metric on the surface can be transformed into an abstract metric by the abovementioned map. Now, we consider the converse question. Given an abstract metric on a planar domain or on a closed surface, can we find a surface in the 3-dimensional Euclidean space whose induced metric is the given abstract metric? This is the isometric embedding problem. It started with a conjecture by Schlaefli in 1873 that this can always be achieved near any given point. This conjecture is widely open and there are only a few results under various conditions. The question can be reformulated in terms of partial differentia equations. Despite the technical description, the underlying equation has a simple form but is hard to solve. In this talk, will give a historical account of isometric embedding and present several open problems. If time permits, l will also discuss applications of isometric embedding in general relativity. The talk is aimed at a genera audience.

美国芝加哥大学博士后。获美国Sloan韩青,美国圣母大学数学系终身教授。美国纽约大学库朗数学研究所博士,Research Fellowship.韩青教授长期致力于非线性偏微分方程和几何分析的研究,在等距嵌入、Monge-Ampere方程、调和函数的零点集和奇异集、退化方程等方面做出了一系列原创性的重要研究成果。

Distributional reinforcement learning (DRL) has achieved empirical success in various domains. One of the core tasks in the field of DRL is distributional policy evaluation, which involves estimating the return distribution for a given policy π.  Empirical distributional dynamic programming (EDDP) and distributional temporal difference (DTD) algorithms have been accordingly proposed, which are extensions of empirical dynamic programming and temporal difference algorithms in the classic RL literature respectively.

In this talk, we will provide non-asymptotic analysis for EDDP and DTD. The sample complexity bounds are minimax optimal (up to logarithmic factors) in the case of the 1-Wasserstein distance. These theoretical results also indicate that distributional policy evaluation does not require more samples than policy evaluation in classic RL.

报告摘要 Abstract

If two conducting or insulating inclusions are closely located, the gradient of the solution may become arbitrarily large as the distance between inclusions tends to zero, resulting in high concentration of stress in between two inclusions. This happens if the bonding of the inclusions and the matrix is perfect, meaning that the potential and flux are continuous across the interface. in this talk, we consider the case when the bonding is imperfect. We consider the case when there are two circular inclusions of the same radii with the imperfect bonding interfaces and prove that the gradient of the solution is bounded regardless of the distance between inclusions if the bonding parameter is finite. This result is of particular importance since the imperfect bonding interface condition is an approximation of the membrane structure of biological inclusions such as biological cells. This talk is based on a recent joint work with S. Fukushima, Y.-G. Ji and X. Li.

Hyeonbae Kang,韩国科学技术院院士,仁荷大学数学系Jungseok讲座教授2014年国际数学家大会(ICM)组委(执委)成员和竞选委员会成员。曾担任首尔国立大学教授、通识教育院副院长,韩国数学会秘书长,2008年加入韩国仁荷大学数学系任Jungseok讲座教授,2011年至今担任应用数学所所长。其主要研究领域包括复合材料中的偏微分方程,反问题及数学成像,谱分析,渐进分析等。2022年国际数学家大会45分钟报告人。曾获韩国科学奖(总统奖)、韩国最佳研究论文奖,最佳学术成就奖等荣誉。

报告题目:从玻尔兹曼方程到宏观流体力学模型

报告摘要 Abstract

分子运动论确立以来,玻尔兹曼方程成为描述流体运动的基本介观模型。使用Chapman-Enskog展开,可以从玻尔兹曼方程直接推导出经典的宏观流体力学模型,包括著名的欧拉方程组和Navi-er-Stokes方程组。特别地,宏观的流体力学模型中的粘性系数、热传导系数等经验参数,可以在此过程中通过流体分子的基本性质推导出来。这让我们对基于介观模型获得精细的宏观流体力学模型充满了无尽的希望。

方向最具代表性的工作,该论文从玻尔兹曼方程推导高阶矩模型,最著名的十三矩模型就是在其中给出的。虽然Grad1949年的经典论文(On the kinetic theory of rarefied gases, CAPM)中就是这个幅来讨论三阶和四阶矩的模型。这个局限和Grad使用的符号系统应该是有关系的,更高阶的计算在当时的符号Grad使用了厄米特展开来开始计算,但是当时的目标还是比较保守的,所以论文花了相当多的篇程中,Grad发现系统不可能是全局双曲的。对宏观一维情形的十三短方程组,他指出(不是证明)在粘性和热通系统下想完成可能性太小了。由于需要给出边界条件,所以必须来分析方程的特征系统,在这个过952的论文(The profile of a steady plane shock wave, CPAM)中,Grad指出马赫数超过大约1.65的时候,量不是小量的时候,系统会因为不双曲所以无法分析清楚特征,从而他给的边界条件会失效。在1会出现子激波。尽管根据当时的计算条件,这些计算往往需要做一些化简,但是这个可以当成一双曲性会失去的较严格的说法。在当时的认识下,这种双曲性会失去的观察并不被认为是一种严重的缺陷,因为本来十三矩方程组也只是希望在平衡分布附近成立就够了,在远离平衡态的情况下,双曲性失去也觉得可以接受。在相当长的一段时间内,整个领域对Grad提出的方法都处于一种非常乐观的状态。事实上,到1971S. Harris的大部头专著《An Introduction to the Theory of the Boltzmann Equation》中依然称Grad的论文“开启了动理学理论的新纪元”(open a new era in kinetic theory)Grd自己也应该是非常对他的理论非常自信的,在S. Flugge1958年编写的《Thermodynamics of Gases(Springer-Verlag)中,Grad写了其中的一个部分,名为Principles of the Kinetic Theory of Gases,标题形式上似乎是模仿牛顿的《自然哲学的数学原理》的样子。Grad1957年获提升为正教授,然后创立了柯郎所的磁流体动力学研究部(Division)。如果在那个年代发现了对宏观三维的十三矩方程组来说,平衡分布事实上是在双曲区域的边界上,这样的乐观估计就不会延续这么长时间了。这就是为什么我们后来指出平衡分布在双曲区域边界上是个很令人吃惊的事实的原因。到70年代后期,由于Grad距方法总是不能够准确地预测物理,还有类似的几种高阶模型,如Burnettsuper Burnett方程组,以至于Cercignani说所有的高阶模型“从来没有获得令人瞩目的成功”(have never achieved any noticeable success), 对Grad的矩方法的研究终于逐渐趋于平静。在我们査阅到的文献中,严格地说明宏观一维的十三矩方程组在平衡分布附近有一个双曲区域应该是迟至1998L. MullerT. RuggerilJ专著《Rational Extended Thermodynics》中才出现。我们在2014年发现了宏观三维的十三短方程组平衡分布在双曲区域的边界上,但是在这个之前我们已经发展了对任意阶Grad矩模型进行全局双曲正则化的理论了,所以这个令人吃惊的发现仅仅是让人感到出人意料而已,而不会让人对获得精细的流体力学模型感到绝望了。我将在这个报告中向与会专家介绍我们解决这个在了六十多年的问题的主要结论和其中内在的逻辑,期望我们的工作可以和大家共同体会到:简单和自然是数学最根本的价值观和审美观。在调研这个历史的论文,届时王先生应该尚在师从Ulenbeck攻读博士学位,另外一个是钱学森先生也曾研究过流体力学的高阶的过程中,我们看到有两点和我国学者有关系:一个是Grad1952年的论文中引用了王承书先生模型。

李若,2001年博土毕业于北京大学数学科学学院,现为数学学院博雅特聘教授,博土生导师,研究方向为偏做分方程数值解,特别是流体力学的数值方法,解决了有六十余年历史的玻尔兹曼方程Grad矩系统双曲性缺失的问题。曾获得国家杰出青年基金,冯康科学计算奖,吴文俊应用数学奖,获聘教育部长江特聘教授和入选中组部领军人才计划,是第九届国际工业与应用数学大会报告人。瞄准核心工具软件国产化替换的目标,目前正致力于领导和组织《北太天元》通用数值软件的开发工作。

We study the asymptotic behavior and the scattering from infinity problem for the massive Maxwell-Klein-Gordon system in the Lorenz gauge, which were previously only studied for the massless system. For a general class of initial data, in particular of nonzero charge, we derive the precise asymptotic behaviors of the solution. Moreover, we derive a formula for the charge at infinite time, which shows that the charge is concentrated at timelike infinity, a phenomenon drastically different from the massless case. After deriving the asymptotics, we prove the scattering from infinity by constructing backward solutions given the scattering data. We show that one can determine the correct charge contribution using the information at timelike infinity, which is important for us to obtain solutions not only for the reduced equations in the Lorenz gauge but also for the original physical system.

经典的Calderon交换子产生于Hilbert变换和微分算子的复合,它在调和分析和PDE中有重要应用。我们将给出一类由分数阶微分算子与奇异积分算子复合生成的Calderon交换子的在不同函数空间上有界性的特征。

报告人简介:

丁勇,理学博士,北京师范大学二级教授,博士生导师。从事基础数学专业的教学与研究。主要研究方向为调和分析及其应用,是国内调和分析领域的领军人物之一。目前已在国际顶级数学杂志《JFA》、《Analysis&PDE》、《Trans.ofAMS》、《Revista Matematica Iberoamericana》等杂志上发表(含合作)学术论文百余篇,在新加坡世界科学出版社出版学术专著1部。已主持并完成国家自然科学基金重点项目1项、面上项目和教育部博士点基金项目多项。曾应邀担任美国Pittsburgh大学和美国Kansas大学访问教授,台湾中央大学客座教授,多次应邀在国内外召开的国际学术会议上做大会特邀报告,是唯一一位被邀请在西班牙召开的2006年国际数学家大会调和分析卫星会议上作50分钟报告的中国学者。曾应邀访问过美国、德国、法国、西班牙、日本、韩国等国及中国台湾、澳门地区20余所大学数学系和研究所。曾担任过2002年国际数学家大会调和分析卫星会议等十几个调和分析及其应用学术会议的学术委员会或组织委员会成员。担任过国家科技奖评审专家。2003年获得教育部自然科学奖二等奖。研究生教材《现代分析基础》入选2011年北京市高等教育精品教材。2013年获北京市高等教育教学成果二等奖。已指导了近20位博士和硕士,其中已有4位任教授,1位获2009年全国百篇优秀博士论文提名奖, 2位入选教育部新世纪优秀人才计划,1位入选2016年中组部青年千人计划和2023年国家杰出青年基金获得者,1位入选2023年国家优秀青年基金获得者。

Many fundamental problems in machine learning are abstractly captured by decomposable convex optimization. One common approach to this problem involves sampling one term at every iteration to make progress, which relies on the condition number of the problem.

In this talk, we will introduce an algorithm for decomposable convex optimization, based on a recent work by Dong, Jiang, Lee, Padmanabhan, and Ye (NeurIPS 2022). This algorithm solves the problem in nearly-linear gradient computations, with no assumptions on the condition number.

报告摘要 Abstract

Spurious factor behaviors arise in large random matrices with high-rank signal components and heavy-tailed spectral distributions. This paper establishes analytical probabilistic limits and distribution theory of these spurious behaviors for high-dimensional non-stationary integrated systems, and stationary systems with near-unit-root spatial processes across cross sections, We transform scree plots into Hill plots to detect spectral patterns in these spurious factor models and develop multiple t-tests to distinguish between spurious and genuine factor models. Numerical analysis indicates that the existing spurious factor models fit some, but not all. economic datasets. In particular, the term structure of interest rates adheres to genuine factor models rather than the local correlation model.

何易于2012年毕业于荷兰蒂尔堡大学计量经济学及运筹学系,并在2013年获得英国剑桥大学研究硕士学位。他于2016年取得荷兰蒂尔堡大学博士学位后先后在澳大利亚莫纳什大学商学院和荷兰阿姆斯特大学经济学院任职。何的研究领域涵盖高维统计、随机矩阵、极值理论和机器学习等多个方面。他的研究成果发表在Annals of Statistics, Journal of American Statistical Association, Journal of the Royal Statistical Society - Series B, Journal of Econometrics, Journal of Business and Economic Statistics期刊。

我们把三条边长都是有理数的直角三角形的面积称为同余数. 同余数问题就是判断一个给定的正整数是否是同余数. 这一问题历史悠久, 很多学者做出了贡献, 我国数学家田野的工作被称为里程碑式的成果. 报告介绍同余数问题和相关研究, 特别是我们在同余数问题方面的研究结果. 内容包括:我们给出的同余数的判别法并与经典的 Tunnell定理进行比较;解释我们的证明中首次给出的权为 3/2 的尖形式到权为 2 的尖形式的Shimura提升的方法, 其中关键点是发现了三元二次型表奇素数的平方与相关的四元二次型表这个奇素数之间存在着深刻的关联; 我们还将说明我们发现的同余数问题与代数K理论之间存在的密切联系。

报告人简介:

秦厚荣,南京大学教授、博士生导师。现任江苏国家应用数学中心主任;1999年获国家杰出青年基金,2004年受聘教育部长江学者奖励计划特聘教授;1998年至2022年先后担任南京大学数学系党委书记,系主任;江苏省数学学会第十届、第十一届理事长,第十二届监事会监事长。研究方向主要是代数数论和代数K理论。秦厚荣教授在同余数这一历史悠久问题的研究上取得了重要成果;在数域的Tame核、Tate核方面做出了原创性工作;在著名的椭圆曲线Anomalous素数的Mazur猜想以及Lang-Trotter猜想的研究中取得了突破。在国际著名刊物上发表了数十篇论文,研究结果在国际同行中产生了广泛而积极的影响。

报告摘要 Abstract

Classical three sphere theorem, uniqueness of Cauchy problem and BIO estimates for solutions of elliptic equations have a great deal to do with the growth rates of solutions. The subject of quantitative unique continuation is to study growth rates of solutions. The latter often depends on Lipschitz continuity of coefficients of equations. In this lecture, l shall discuss an ongoing project (with Z.H.Gan, R.J.Jiang) concerning such estimates in elliptic homogenization. We found an essentially necessary and sufficient condition product of the growth rates with small-period size epsilon so that the above mentioned are true.

林芳华教授为纽约大学柯朗数学研究所讲席教授,是一位在世界上享有盛誉的数学家。他1981年毕业于浙江大学,1985年在明尼苏达大学获博士学位。1990年在国际数学家大会上作45分钟报告,2002年荣获美国数学会Bocher奖,2004年成为美国艺术和科学院院士2015年被评为美国数学会fellow。林芳华教授在偏微分方程、几何测度论、几何分析等数学领域有着广泛而突出的贡献,特别是在液晶数学理论、调和映照、Ginzburg-Landau方程等问题上做出了一系列杰出的工作。林芳华教授已出版了多本专著,并在Acta Math. Ann.Math., JAMS,Invent. Math.CPAM等国际著名期刊上发表了200余篇论文。

In this talk l will review some recent results on multi-bubble blow-ups and multi-solitons to the focusing nonlinear Schrodinger equations in both stochastic and deterministic cases. We will show the construction and conditional uniqueness of multi-bubble Bourgain-Wang type blow-up solutions and non-pure multi-solitons, which provide new examples for the mass quantization conjecture and the soliton resolution conjecture. In the low asymptotic regime, the refined uniqueness is also de-rived. Furthermore, we will show the direct construction of stochastic multi-solitons in the mass critical and subcritical cases, for which the classical pseudo-conformal symmetry is absent.

In this talk we revisits the problem of global well-posedness for the generalized parabolic Anderson model on R + ×T 2 within the framework of paracontrolled calculus [GIP15]. The model is given by the equation: (t )u = F (u)η where η ∈ C 1κ with 1/6 > κ > 0, and F  C 2 b (R). Assume that η  C 1κ and can be lifted to enhanced noise, we derive new a priori bounds. The key idea follows from the recent work [CFW24] by A.Chandra, G.L. Feltes and H.Weber to represent the leading error term as a transport type term, and our techniques encompass the paracontrolled calculus, the maximum principle, and the localization approach (i.e. high-low frequency argument).

Complex Kahler varieties with vanishing first Chern class, Calabi-Yau varieties for short, can be viewed as natural generalisation of elliptic curves from one--to higher complex dimensions. Here we highlight the most interesting mathematical aspects of these generalisations with a particular emphasis on their applications to mathematical physics, which range from geometric engineering of non-perturbative quantum field theories over the predictions for the microscopic entropy of blackholes to the calculation of Feynman inteqrals.

报告摘要 Abstract

In this talk, numerical methods for the Euler equations with a singular are discussed. The stationary discontinuity induced by the singular source and its coupling with the convection of fluid present challenges to both theoretical analysis and numerical computation. We introduce a definition of the well-balanced property of the numerical scheme for the singular source of interest, which is necessary for the numerical solution to be correct. We theoretically show that the splitting scheme is always not well-balanced and leads to incorrect results. For the unsplitting scheme, we present a consistency condition of the numerical fluxes for singular sources, which ensures the numerical scheme to be well-balanced, However, it can be shown that the well-balanced property of a scheme cannot guarantee the correct numerical solutions in extreme cases. To fix such difficulties, we propose a solution-structure based approximate Riemann solver, in which the structure of Riemann solution is first predicted and then its corresponding approximate solution is given. The proposed solver can be applied to the calculation of numerical fluxes in a general finite volume method, which can lead to a new well-balanced scheme. Numerical tests show the discontinuous Galerkin method based on the present approximate Riemann solver has ability to capture each wave accurately.

We study nonuniform Sobolev spaces, i.e. spaces of functions whose partial derivatives lie impossibly different Lebesgue spaces. Although standard proofs do not apply, we show that nonuni-orm Sobolev spaces share similar properties as the classical ones. These spaces arise naturally in the study of certain PDEs. For instance, we illustrate that nonuniform fractional Sobolev spaces are useful in the study of local estimates for solutions of heat equations and the convergence of Schrodinger operators. In this work we extend recent advances on local energy estimates for solutions of heat equations and the convergence of Schrodinger operators to nonuniform fractional Sobolev spaces.

With the significant success of deep learning in practical applications in recent years, researchers have become curious about whether it is possible to explain neural networks with mathematical theory. In the process of solving practical problems using neural networks and deep learning algorithms, there are three natural types of errors: approximation error, optimization error, and generalization error. In this seminar, we will specifically introduce the sources of these three errors and showcase some representative works of theoretical analysis in recent years. Currently, these theories still have a significant gap from what we actually want to explain. They provide little practical guidance for deep learning algorithms, and the design of specific algorithms and determination of hyperparameters for practical problems still heavily rely on practical experience and meta-learning. Perhaps researchers have not yet found valuable theoretical directions for explaining neural networks. At present, the implementation of specific algorithms remains a more valuable direction of work.

Networked multi-agent systems often communicate information over low-power shared wireless networks in unlicensed spectrum, which are prone to denial-of-service attacks. An instance of this scenario is considered: multiple pairs of agents, each pair consisting of a transmitting sensor and a receiver acting as an estimator, communicate strategically over shared communication networks in the presence of a jammer who may launch a denial-of-service attack in the form of packet collisions. Using the so-called coordinator approach, we cast this problem as a zero-sum game between the coordinator, who jointly optimizes the transmission and estimation policies, and a jammer who optimizes its probability of performing an attack. In this talk, we consider two cases: point-to-point channels and large-scale networks with a countably infinite number of sensor-receiver pairs. When the jammer proactively attacks the channel, we find that this game is nonconvex from the coordinator's perspective. However, we construct a saddle point equilibrium solution for any multi-variate Gaussian input distribution for the observations despite the lack of convexity. In the case where the jammer is reactive, we obtain a customized algorithm based on sequential convex optimization, which converges swiftly to first order Nash-equilibria. Interestingly, we discovered that when the jammer is reactive, it is often optimal to block the channel even when it knows that the channel is idle to create ambiguity at the receiver.

For a compact Khler manifold, by considering the high tensor powers of a prequantum line bundle, Shiffman and Zelditch (1999, CMP) proved the equidistribution of the zeros of random holomorphic sections in the semiclassical limit. Then several generalizations and extensions of this result have been made in different geometric or probabilistic settings. Notably, the large deviation estimates and hole probabilities for the random zeros were also established on compact Hermitian manifolds. In this series of lectures, I will give an introduction to these results and their generalization to the case of noncompact Hermitian manifolds. Specially, as the first part of the lectures, I will discuss the constructions of the Gaussian random holomorphic sections of holomorphic line bundles and the methods to study their zeros. A particular case is that the space of square-integrable holomorphic sections is infinite-dimensional.

We prove that along with the Einstein flow, any small perturbations of an $n$($n\geq4$)-dimensional, non-compact negative Einstein space with some ``non-positive Weyl tensor” lead to a unique and global solution, and the solution will be attracted to a noncompact Einstein space that is close to the background one. The $n=3$ case has been addressed in Wang-Yuan, while in dimension $n\geq 4$, as we know, negative Einstein metrics in general have non-trivial moduli spaces. This fact is reflected on the structure of Einstein equations, which further indicates no decay for the spatial Weyl tensor. Furthermore, it is suggested in the proof that the mechanic preventing the metric from flowing back to the original Einstein metric lies in the non-decaying character of spatial Weyl tensor. In contrary to the compact case considered in Andersson-Moncrief, our proof is independent of the theory of infinitesimal Einstein deformations. Instead, we take advantage of the inherent geometric structures of Einstein equations and develop an approach of energy estimates for a hyperbolic system of Maxwell type.

Matrix approximation is a crucial technique in numerous research areas across science and engineering, such as machine learning, scientific computing, and signal processing. These fields often deal with high-dimensional datasets formatted as matrices, which necessitates the use of matrix ap-proximation as a fundamental step in data processing. In this talk, we address the problem of approximating a data matrix by selecting a subset of its columns and/or rows either from the matrix itself or from other source matrices. We apply the method of interlacing polynomials, introduced by Marcus, Spielman, and Srivastava, to develop new deterministic algorithms and establish a theoretical limit on the minimum approximation error, Our algorithm is deterministic and operates in polynomial time. Additionally, our new bounds are asymptotically sharp in several challenging scenarios where current methods provide unnecessarily large error bounds.

This talk introduces two efficient numerical methods for solving nonlinear filtering (NLF) problems. We propose the utilization of the proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) method and tensor train decomposition method to solve the forward Kolmogorov equation (FKE) associated with NLF problems. Our approach involves offline and online stages. In the offline stage, we discretize the partial differential operators within the FKE using the finite difference method, while extracting low-dimensional structures in the solution through the POD method or tensor train decomposition method. In the online stage, we leverage precomputed POD basis functions or low-rank approximation tensors to rapidly solve the FKE when provided with new observation data. Consequently, real-time solutions to NLF problems can be obtained. Numerical results are also presented to demonstrate the efficiency and accuracy of our proposed method in solving NLF problems of up to six dimensions.

本报告中我们讨论在Kirkwood-Dirac(KD)表象和量子资源理论领域的若干理论探索。我们提出了矩阵缺秩指数的概念,并用这个概念对酉矩阵进行分类,这种分类刚好对应于两个正交归一基的兼容性问题,并且和KD表象问题有联系。目前对KD经典纯态已经有一些理论研究,我们对KD经典纯态做了进一步研究,改进了已知的几个结论。虚数性问题这几年受到较多关注,但是已有的研究主要集中在有限维量子态。我们研究了玻色高斯态的虚数性问题,得到了高斯态是实数态时其一阶矩和二阶矩的充要条件,在此基础上我们提出了基于保真度的高斯态虚数性度量和基于Tsallis相对熵的高斯态虚数性度量。最后我们介绍一种量子相位的资源理论。

报告摘要 Abstract:

When solving partial differential equations, finite difference methods have the advantage of simplicity, however they are usually only designed on Cartesian meshes.  In this talk, we will discuss a class of high order finite difference numerical boundary condition for solving hyperbolic Hamilton-Jacobi equations, hyperbolic conservation laws, and convection-diffusion equations on complex geometry using a Cartesian mesh.  The challenge results from the wide stencil of the interior high order scheme and the fact that the boundary may not be aligned with the mesh. Our method is based on an inverse Lax-Wendroff procedure for the inflow boundary conditions coupled with traditional extrapolation or weighted essentially non-oscillatory (WENO) extrapolation for outflow boundary conditions.  The schemes are shown to be high order and stable, under the standard CFL condition for the inner schemes, regardless of the distance of the first grid point to the physical boundary, that is, the ``cut-cell'' difficulty is overcome by this procedure.  Recent progress in nonlinear conservation laws with sonic points, and a conservative version of the method, will be discussed. Numerical examples are provided to illustrate the good performance of our method.

Chi-Wang Shu obtained his BS degree from the University of Science and Technology of China in 1982 and his PhD degree from UCLA in 1986.  He has been at Brown University since 1987, where he is the Chair of the Division of Applied Mathematics since 2023 and between 1999 and 2005, and is the Theodore B. Stowell University Professor of Applied Mathematics. His research interest includes high order numerical methods for solving hyperbolic and other convection dominated PDEs, with applications in CFD and other areas. He is the Chief Editor of Journal of Scientific Computing and of Communications on Applied Mathematics and Computation, and serves in the editorial boards of several other journals including Journal of Computational Physics and Mathematics of Computation.  He is a SIAM Fellow, an AMS Fellow and an AWM Fellow, and an invited 45-minute speaker in the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) in 2014. He received the First Feng Kang Prize of Scientific Computing in 1995, the SIAM/ACM Prize in Computational Science and Engineering in 2007, and the SIAM John von Neumann Prize in 2021.

理解一个算法如何工作并不算是太困难的任务,但是要弄明白算法是怎样设计出来的,却是很困难的。算法设计一般被认为是非常依赖灵感的智力活动;当我们看到别人设计出的精妙算法时,在钦佩之余,往往也会有与G.Polya类似的困惑:“这么精妙的算法是怎样设计出来的?我为什么没有想到这个算法呢?”本次报告将介绍“用AI技术辅助算法设计”的初步尝试,包括利用深度学习技术自动学习出排课问题的贪心规则,实现了变“凭灵感设计算法”为“从数据学习出算法”;利用AI技术设计求解最小加权覆盖问题的贪心规则,性能超过经典的、依赖人工设计的贪心算法;利用AI技术的TSP求解算法,性能超过LKH算法;利用AI技术的插值算法NIERT,学出“插值基函数”。

Gradient-free/zeroth-order methods for convex optimization were developed in a wide range of works in the last decade, mainly driven by many applications in the field of reinforcement learning and statistics, such as convex bandit. Recently, several generic approaches based on optimal first-order methods were proposed, which allows us to obtain black-box zeroth-order algorithms for optimization problems. These algorithms also behave well in terms of the oracle complexity, iteration complexity, and level of admissible noise.

In this talk, we will introduce the major approach for several kinds of zeroth-order optimization problems, which is based on the first-order methods by approximating the gradient. We will then briefly introduce some specific optimization problems, such as convex bandit, as well as some techniques in first-order methods that can be applied to the gradient-free case.

In real scenarios, state observations that an agent observes may contain measurement errors or adversarial noises, misleading the agent to take suboptimal actions or even collapse while training. In this paper, we study the training robustness of distributional Reinforcement Learning (RL), a class of state-of-the-art methods that estimate the whole distribution, as opposed to only the expectation, of the total return. Firstly, we validate the contraction of distributional Bellman operators in the State-Noisy Markov Decision Process (SN-MDP), a typical tabular case that incorporates both random and adversarial state observation noises. In the noisy setting with function approximation, we then analyze the vulnerability of least squared loss in expectation-based RL with either linear or nonlinear function approximation. By contrast, we theoretically characterize the bounded gradient norm of distributional RL loss based on the categorical parameterization equipped with the Kullback–Leibler (KL) divergence. The resulting stable gradients while the optimization in distributional RL accounts for its better training robustness against state observation noises. Finally, extensive experiments on the suite of environments verified that distributional RL is less vulnerable against both random and adversarial noisy state observations compared with its expectation-based counterpar.

In this talk we consider parameter-dependent elliptic partial differential equations with a finite number of parameters. The unknown parameters are sought for by minimizing a least-squares involving data/measurements. The underlying PDE is discretized by a conforming finite element method on a sequence of adaptive meshes, which are constructed by means of an error estimator.Here we propose an estimator for the error in parameter only. This in contrast to known estimators from the literature, which in addition control the energy-norm of the state and co-state. Our reason for doing so is that the last mentioned terms are generally of slower speed of convergence.After some motivation, we first discuss goal-oriented error estimation, then consider the parameter estimation problem, and finally we will discuss some open problems.

Topological cyclic homology is introduced in the 1990s by Bokstedt-Hsiang-Madsen to study topological problems like the classifications of manifolds. The work of Dundas-Goodwillie-McCarthmakes topological cyclic homology an important tool in algebraic K-theory computations. Recently work by Bhatt-Morrow-Scholze has shed new light on the theory of topological cyclic homology and p-adic cohomology. Influenced by this, we will show how to use relative topological Hochschild homology to study topological cyclic homology for locally complete intersections. We will also give the basic properties of the resulting cohomology theory arising from the stack defined by the descent spectral sequence. This is joint work with Jingbang Guo and Ruochuan Liu.

王国祯,复旦大学数学科学学院长聘教授,上海数学中心讲席教授,国家杰出青年基金获得者。2011年毕业于北京大学,获学士、硕士学位,2015年获得麻省理工学院博士学位,2015-2016年在哥本哈根大学从事博士后研究,2016-2018年在上海数学中心从事博士后研究。研究方向为代数拓扑,在球面稳定同伦群的计算方面,王国祯的团队处于世界领先水平。因为在球面稳定同伦群方面的工作,受邀在2022年国际数学家大会上作45分钟报告。在Ann.Math.,Acta Math.,Invent. Math,PNAS等顶级期刊(含4篇四大)上发表高质量论文多篇受到国内外同行的广泛赞誉。

报告摘要 Abstract:

In this talk, we will introduce the asymptotic stability of solution to an initial-boundary value problem for a hyperbolic-elliptic coupling system on two-dimensional half space. We show that the solution to the problem converges to the corresponding planar rarefaction wave as time tends to infinity. To our knowledge, the stability result of planar rarefaction wave on half space focus primarily on the single viscosity conservation law because the rarefaction wave (one-dimensional diffusion wave) of the corresponding one-dimensional problem to scalar viscosity conservation law is known. In other words, for a general high dimensional system of equations, we cannot obtain the stability of planar rarefaction wave on half spacebecause we cannot construct the rarefaction wave of the corresponding one-dimensional problem. In this paper, we use the structure of the hyperbolic-elliptic coupling system to obtain the monotonic rarefaction wave of the corresponding one-dimensional problem, and hence give the stability of the plane rarefaction wave on half space.This is a joint work with Minyi Zhang.

It has been established that ambiguity aversion increases the optimal demand of (self-)insurance due to the resulting mean-preserving contraction in the distribution of expected utility. We extend the existing framework by further permitting the insurance indemnities to vary ex-ante based on the state of information concerning the loss probability that is realized expost. We show that ambiguity-averse agents will always strictly prefer state-of-information dependent insurances over ones with fixed indemnities. Our results also hold when the underlying state of information cannot be directly observed, but can be (partially) inferred from some observable indicators - based on which indemnities are further contingent.

Dr. Guan earned her PhD in Financial Mathematics from Florida State University in 2011. She earned her BS in Financial Mathematics from Peking University in 2006. Dr. Guan joined DePaul University in 2020.  She holds a joint appointment with the Department of Mathematical Sciences in the College of Science and Health and the Department of Finance in the Driehaus College of Business. As a member of those two departments, she serves as the Director of the Actuarial Science programs in each college. Dr. Guan is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA). Her research interests are in financial mathematics and actuarial science, focusing on heterogeneous agent models, risk management, and insurance economics.

MILP(混合整数规划问题)求解器是密码算法自动化攻击中的重要工具,MILP模型的求解效率影响着攻击结果。不同的模型求解效率可能相差极大,为了研究影响模型求解效率的关键因素,需要构造多种MILP模型。本文研究布尔函数MILP模型构造方法,提出了可以构造多种类型MILP模型的超级球算法,并最终找到了一类在大多数情况下求解效率较高的MILP模型。

我们介绍微局部分析方法在双曲动力系统的研究中的应用。微局部分析是二十世纪后半叶偏微分方程的研究中发展起来的重要工具,主要想法是将线性偏微分算子的性质归结为其象征,特别是象征所对应的Hamilton动力系统的性质。BaladiFaureSiostrandTsiui等人在2010年左右将微局部分析工具反而引入双曲动力系统的研究之中而产生了许多意想不到的结果,例如Dyatlov--Zworski以及Dyatlov--GuillarmouRuelle zeta函数的研究解决了Smale亚纯延拓猜想(Anosov流由Giulietti-Liverani-Pollicot最先证明》。在此次报告中,我们将回顾这些结果并汇报最近与陶中恺(加州大学伯克利分校)合作对公理A流的迹公式以及Pollicott-Ruelle共振谱的一些研究工作。

报告人简介:

金龙,2006年参加IMO并获得金牌,2010年本科毕业于北京大学数学科学学院,2015年获得加州大学伯克利分校数学系博士学位。曾在哈佛大学和普渡大学任博士后、助理教授,现任清华大学丘成桐数学科学中心副教授。研究方向为微局部分析与半经典分析,谱理论与散射理论,近年来在量子混沌领域取得重要突破,在Acta Math、JAMS、CMP等顶尖期刊发表多篇学术论文。

Guang Cheng is a Gradudate Vice Chair, Professor of Statistics and Data Science at UCLA, and also leading the Trustworthy AI Lab (https://www.stat.ucla.edu/~guangcheng/). He received his BA in Economics from Tsinghua University in 2002, and PhD in Statistics from University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2006. His research interests include generative data science, statistical machine learning and deep learning. Cheng is an Institute of Mathematical Statistics Fellow, Simons Fellow in Mathematics, NSF CAREER awardee and was also a member in the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton.

为应对高维复杂特征信息处理挑战,本报告在闭形式瞬时互相关维格纳分布基础上,通过三个自由亚辛变换将传统维格纳分布推广为自由亚辛维格纳分布,并提出了其代表性特例,包括维不可分仿射特征维格纳分布、N维不可分核函数维格纳分布、N维不可分卷积表示维格纳分布和N维不可分瞬时互相关维格纳分布。本报告针对实值函数建立了一般自由亚辛维格纳分布的海森堡不确定性原理,针对复值函数建立了正交、标准正交、最小特征值可换、最大特征值可换等特定自由亚辛维格纳分布的海森堡不确定性原理,阐明了辛矩阵对自由亚辛维格纳分布时频分辨率的影响机制。所得结果在一维情形时的特例,即实值函数和复值函数的闭形式瞬时互相关维格纳分布海森堡不确定性原理,揭示了线性正则变换自由参数引发时频超分辨率的内在机制。

报告摘要 Abstract:

A general asymptotic theory is established for sample cross moments of nonstationary time series, allowing for long range dependence and local unit roots. The theory provides a substantial extension of earlier results on nonparametric regression that include near-cointegrated nonparametric regression as well as spurious nonparametric regression. Many new models are covered by the limit theory, among which are functional coefficient regressions in which both regressors and the functional covariate are nonstationary. Simulations show finite sample performance matching well with the asymptotic theory and having broad relevance to applications,while revealing how dual nonstationarity in regressors and covariates raises sensitivity bandwidth choice and the impact of dimensionality in nonparametric regression. An empirical example is provided involving climate data regression to assess Earth's climate sensitivity to CO$_2$. where nonstationarity is a prominent feature of both the regressors and covariates in the model. This application is the first rigorous empirical analysis to assess nonlinear impacts of COS 2S on Earth's climate. (Joint work with Peter Phillips and Ying Wang.)

王启应,澳大利亚悉尼大学数学与统计学院教授,主要研究方向为计量经济,非参数统计自正则化极限理论等领域在Econometrica, Annals of Probability,Annals of Statistics, Journal of Econometrics和Econometric Theory等概率、统计和计量经济领域的顶尖期刊上发表论文80余篇,其专著《Limit theorems for nonlinear cointegrating regression》系统地介绍了非线性协整回归分析的理论体系。他 是2007-2012 澳大利亚国家研究学者 (Australian Researcr Fellow) ,2017年计量经济理论杂志(Econometric Theory) Plura Scripsit 奖的三位获奖者之一,2004年以来持续获得渡大利亚科学研究委员会(ARC)资助。

Fully nonlinear PDEs have provided powerful techniques in the study of problems from complex and algebraic geometry. going back to Yau's proof of Calabi conjecture by solving the Monge-Ampere equation. It is worthwhile to note that many problems that have been studied so far can be expressed as equations or systems involving real (1.1) forms. this talk we introduce a new class of fully nonlinear equations of higher order differential forms, more precisely real (p. p) forms for p > 1 on Hermitian manifolds.0ur work was inspired by the important roles of such forms, especially in the study of cohomology classes. We shall also discuss some existence results on fully nonlinear equations on real and complex manifold, and techniques developed in solving these equations.This talk is based on joint work with my student Mathew George and other collaborators.

关波,博士毕业于美国马萨诸塞大学,师从Joel Spruck教授。现为俄亥俄州立大学数学系教授。研究方向为非线性偏微分方程和几何分析,主要工作包括一般区域/流形上实和复蒙日-安培方程;常高斯曲率曲面的普拉图问题;闵可夫斯基问题的推广;关于双曲空间中具有常曲率和给定渐近边界的完备曲面的研究;以及实或复流形上一般完全非线性偏微分方程。其代表作发表在Annals of Math, CPAM, Duke Math.J., JDG,J.Eur. Math, Soc., J. Reine  Angew.Math.,Amer.J.Math., Adv.Math.等国际一流期刊上。

We review and compare several representative and effective randomized Kaczmarz-type iteration methods, and their modifications and extensions, for solving the large, sparse, consistent or inconsistent systems of linear equations. We also anatomize, extract, and purify the asymptotic convergence theories of these iteration methods, and discuss, analyze, and summarize their advantages and dis-advantages from the viewpoints of both theory and computations.

白中治,中国科学院数学与系统科学研究院研究员、博士生导师,俄罗斯南部联邦大学荣誉博士。先后获得国务院政府特殊津贴、国家杰出青年科学基金和冯康科学计算奖。先后担任至少十五种国际国内学术刊物的编委。曾连续五次跻身于汤森路透ISI Web of Science 全球高被引科学家行列。他与美国科学院、工程院和艺术科学院院士、斯坦福大学教授 Gene H.Golub 等一起所提出的 HSS 选代方法被公认为是矩阵计算的里程碑,也是线性代数方程组迭代方法研究领域近二十年来最重要的进展之一。在SIAM出版社出版专著一部。

报告摘要 Abstract:

We will consider the inverse problem of determining the sound speed or index of refraction of a medium. This problem arises in global seismology by measuring the travel times of waves going through the medium.in an attempt to determine the inner structure of the Earth by measuring travel times of earthquakes, lt also has several applications in optics and medical imaging among others. The problem can be recast as a geometric problem: Can one determine the Riemannian metric of a Riemannian manifold with boundary by measuring the distance function between boundary points? This is the boundary rigidity problem. We will also consider the problem of determining the metric from the scattering relation, the so-called lens rigidity problem. The linearization of these problems involves the integration of a tensor along geodesics, similar to the X-ray transform and we will consider the problem of inverting these transforms using limited data. No previous knowledge of differential geometry will be assumed

This paper deals with the optimization problem of a class of controlled N-particle systems. We establish the regularity results, which is uniform in N , on the HJB equations corresponding to the N-particle system. The uniform regularity results are obtained by the stochastic maximum principle and the analysis on a Riccati type BSDE. Using the uniform regularity results, we show the convergence of value function and optimal control as the number N of particles tends to infinity, where the convergence rates are also given. This is based on a joint work with Huafu Liao, Alpar Meszaros and Chenchen Mou.

Singularity Theory is considered as an important tool in application of geometry to various problems in physics. Singularities of complex and algebraic varieties are recently studied by a combination of geometric and algebraic methods. The structure of a given singularity can be described by means of its classical commutative resolution. Relatively recently, noncommutative resolutions were proposed and intensively studied.We discus recent results and conjectures about the derived categories of singularities and their commutative and noncommutative resolution:These include the null categories of the resolutions, spherical functors, flop-fop functors and Knoerrer periodicity for noncommutative Auslander resolutions.

Prof. Bondal received his Ph.D. in Steklov Mathematical Institute of RAS in Moscow in 1989. He was an associate professor at Moscow State University from 1990 to 1994. Prof. Bondal joined Steklov institute in 1994, where he was promoted to a leading Researcher.He was an invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Beijing in 2002.His research interests include Algebraic and Complex Geometry, Homological Algebra and Representation Theory. Currently, he is visiting the Institute for Physics and Mathematics of the Universe Tokyo University Japan.

We introduce cluster braid groups, with motivations coming from the study of stability conditions on triangulated categories. In the Coxeter-Dynkin case, they are naturally isomorphic to the corresponding Artin's braid groups (1407.5986 and 2310.02871). In the surface case, they are naturally isomorphic to braid twist groups (1407.0806, 1703.10053 and 1805.00030). If time permits, I will mention an application to quadratic differentials.

How to collect and analyze data while still protecting individual privacy has attracted increasing attention from researchers, practitioners, and policymakers. We propose a privacy-preserving data collection algorithm that allows a central administration to collect the data set while still preserving individual privacy. Moreover, we demonstrate the applications of our algorithm to machine learning.

Ning Cai is currently professor and thrust head of the Thrust of Financial Technology at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) (HKUST(GZ)). Previously, he taught at HKUST as assistant professor, associate professor, and professor sequentially. He received both MS and PhD at Columbia University and both BS and MS at Peking University. His research interests include FinTech, financial engineering, applied probability, and stochastic modeling. He serves as associate editor or editorial board member of seven international scholarly journals, including Operations Research, Operations Research Letters, Stochastic Models, and Digital Finance.

报告题目:Original energy diminishing Runge-Kutta methods for gradient flows

报告摘要 Abstract:

As gradient flows, energy dissipation is an intrinsic property of phase-field models. High performance energy stability preserving numerical schemes are highly desired. Recent decades, many such well known numerical schemes are developed, such as convex splitting, stabilization technique, IEQ approach, SAV approach, and etc. Basically, most high-order energy stability preserving schemes are multistep methods and the so-called energy stability is established via modified energy. In this talk, I will introduce several single step linear Runge-Kutta (RK) methods, including explicit RK (EX-RK) methods, implicit explicit RK (IMEX-RK) methods and exponential time differencing Runge-Kutta (ETD-RK) methods. All these RK methods are shown to preserve the original energy decaying property. For EX-RK and IMEX-RK methods, only using the butcher table we provide a systematical framework to determine whether a scheme can preserve theenergy stability or not. We prove the original energy stability based on the Lipschitz continuity assumption of nonlinear terms and a transformation of the nonlinear stability into quadratic form stability via a novel technique.

杨将,国家特聘青年专家,现为南方科技大学数学系副教授。分别于2010年和2014年在浙江大学和香港浸会大学取得学士学位和博士学位,并于2014-2017年在宾夕法尼亚州立大学和哥伦比亚大学从事博士后研究工作,随后在南方科技大学工作至今。从事计算数学方向的研究,主要研究兴趣包括关于相场模型和非局部模型的建模、计算与应用。主持广东省自然科学基金项目1项、国家自然科学基金面上项目2项。共发表论文30余篇,包括SIAM Review、SINUM、SISC、JCP、SIAP等计算数学领域国际知名期刊。

沈维孝,上海数学中心首席专家、复旦大学数学科学学院教授。1995年毕业于中国科学技术大学,2001年在东京大学获得博士学位。曾任中国科学技术大学教授、新加坡国立大学杰出教授。2009年陈省身数学奖获得者,2014年国际数学家大会邀请报告人,2021年科学探索奖获得者,2023年获得腾讯首期“新基石研究员项目”资助。从事动力系统的研究,与合作者解决了实Fatou猜想、对一维实和复动力系统的吸引子和统计性质以及Weierstrass函数图像的维数等问题作了深入研究,研究成果发表于Ann.Math.(4篇)、Invent.Math.( 5篇) 等国际高水平杂志。

Double phase functionals were first introduced by V. V. Zhikov in 1980s to characterize the features of the strongly anisotropic materials, homogenization and Lavrentiev phenomenon. Since M. Colombo and G. Mingione solved the basic regularity issue on such functionals in 2015, the relevant theory on this kind of problems has made rapid progress from the variational point of view, but, in sharp contrast, viscosity theory is rarely explored. In this talk we present the regularity of viscosity solutions to double phase equations, together with the inner relationship between such solutions and the weak solutions in Musielak-Orlicz-Sobolev space.

Many important posets (partially ordered sets) in combinatorics have algebriac interpretations. We will go over three families of examples: toric varieties, Schubert varieties and matroid Schubert varieties. We will discuss how to translate some of the combinatorical invariants into the geometric ones, and the application of intersection cohomology groups in solving combinatorical problems.

王博潼,2006年本科毕业于北京大学,2012年获得普渡大学博士学位,目前是威斯康星大学麦迪逊分校数学系副教授。在2019年获美国斯隆奖。研究兴趣主要是代数簇的拓扑学,以及将其应用于组合数学、代数统计等方面。与June Huh(2022年Fields奖得主)合作,于2017年证明了组合数学中著名的Dowling-Wilson猜想。

  报告摘要 Abstract:

The computation of stable homotopy groups of spheres is one the most fundamental problems in topology. It has connections to many topics in topology, such as cobordism theory and the classification of smooth structures on spheres.

In this talk, we will survey some classical methods, explain their difficulty via Mahowald’s Uncertainty Principles, and describe a new technique using motivic homotopy theory. This new technique yields streamlined computations through previously known range, and gives new computations through dimension 90.

报告人简介:

徐宙利,2008年本科毕业于北京大学,2017年获得芝加哥大学博士学位,目前是加州大学圣迭戈分校数学系副教授。徐宙利的研究方向是代数拓扑,主要从事球面同伦群的研究,与合作者在球面稳定同伦群的计算上取得了重大突破,受邀在2022年国际数学家大会上做分会报告。

  报告摘要 Abstract:

近年来,AI的成功应用使蛋白质结构预测取得了突破性进展,涌现出AlphaFold2等代表性方法。课题组开发了trRosetta等蛋白质结构预测算法,荣获2022年第15届国际蛋白质结构预测竞赛 (CASP15)的冠军。进一步,我们借鉴蛋白质结构预测的思想,开发了RNA三级结构预测算法trRosettaRNA。我将介绍主要进展和未来挑战。

报告人简介:

杨建益,山东大学教授、博导,国家杰出青年科学基金获得者。曾就职于密歇根大学、南开大学等高校,获2022年度天津市自然科学一等奖。长期专注蛋白质与RNA结构预测算法研究工作,成果发表于Nature Methods、PNAS等期刊。论文被他引上万次,入选爱思维尔中国高被引学者。
