Homological method in branching laws

Abstract: Understanding how a representation decomposes when restricted to a 'nice' subgroup is a problem of fundamental interest in representation theory. In this talk, following D. Prasad, we will discuss some recent results of the homological method in branching laws, especially a vanishing theorem. If time permits, we will also give some speculations on connections with local L-functions.
